FDNY Marine Co. 9, the Fire Fighter Fireboat

This exquisite replica of FDNY Marine Co. 9 is the first of Code 3 Collectibles' Fireboat Series. It features a handcrafted water line display base measuring 15.13L X 7W X 1.5H inches. The boat is removable from the water line base, so you can view its complete hull displayed on attractive brass stands.

FDNY Marine Co.9 History
FDNY Marine Co. 9, also know as the Fire Fighter was built as Hull #856 by United Shipyards of Mariners Harbor, Staten Island, at a final cost of $982.574.85. She was launched on August 26, 1938. She is 134 feet long and was New York's first diesel-electric boat. Advantages of this system are: quick reversing, enhanced maneuverability and exact control of the "turns". These advantages give the Fire Fighter more accurate speed control and faster response time. The Fire Fighter has worn three distinct color schemes since 1938. She was originally delivered with a black hull, white deckhouses, and a buff colored stack with a black band at the top. With the outbreak of WWII, the fireboat fleet was completely covered with dull, gray paint in order to make them less of a target for air attacks. In the late 1950's, she was painted, as she is today, in the red and white color scheme. A white Maltese cross on the stack carries the company number. The Port of New York has hundreds of miles of developed shoreline, and the Fighter has seen service just about everywhere in the harbor. The Fire Fighter's first run was at 8:52 P.M. November 19, 1938, for a barge adrift off Barclay Street in the North River. In September 2001, she worked for well over a week at the World Trade Center supplying manpower and firefighting water after city water mains were disrupted. Although a veteran of over six decades of fire service, she is still ready and "waiting" to go to work at the big fires, like the ones that made her famous.
